About
Milàn Czerny is an investigative journalist specializing in OSINT-based investigations. His work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, Haaretz, OCCRP, The Forward, The Kyiv Independent, Meduza, and other publications. He speaks fluently Russian, French, Hebrew, English, and has basic knowledge of Ukrainian.
As an investigative journalist for Shomrim, Israel's only independent non-profit investigative news organization, he has focused on exploring the intersection of the war in Ukraine and in Gaza, and has taken part in cross-border investigations with numerous media outlets, including Süddeutsche Zeitung, and RFE/RL. His investigations have led to the imposition of international sanctions against violent Israeli settlers and Russian actors involved in disinformation campaigns.
Before joining Shomrim, he worked as a special correspondent for the Russian language independent media The Insider, publishing dozens of long-read, news stories, and video reporting. Two of his investigations were among the outlet's most read in 2023.
Previously, Milàn was an OSINT human-exploitation researcher, focusing on the war in Ukraine, where he helped identify and dismantle cross-border forced prostitution and forced labor networks in the aftermath of the Russian invasion.
Prior, Milàn was an established contributor for Le Grand Continent, a leading French journal, which he helped launch by writing bi-monthly analytical pieces, and policy papers on Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.
He has contributed book chapters regarding Russian foreign policy, published peer-review articles in NATO Journal of Strategic Communications, as well as analysis and commentaries for Carnegie Center, Riddle Russia, Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique, and other think tanks.
He holds a Master of Philosophy in Russian Studies from Oxford University, and a BA from King's College London, War Studies Department.
